VENEZIA-LECCE: POST MATCH

November 25, 2024

At the end of Venezia-Lecce, Day 13 of the Serie A Enilive 2024/25 championship, which finished with the result of 0-1, Venezia coach Eusebio Di Francesco, and Joel Pohjanpalo analyze the match as follows.

Eusebio Di Francesco:
"I believe this is one of the bitterest nights, considering the dominance we showed in this match and the beauty of the football we expressed. For 70 minutes, they only entered our half of the pitch three times. It was an absurd match: the boys gave everything, but we are all deeply disappointed with this result.
Objectively, I find it hard to come up with a clear analysis of a match like this. We gave our all, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to capitalize. It’s a shame because we wanted to take home the result.
We’re not happy, but I wouldn’t change anything. We tried to give everything. The boys worked incredibly hard, but they couldn’t be clinical in front of goal. Tonight, I won’t sleep: I feel sorry for the fans, for the players, and for the club. However, I’m not ashamed of what we did.
Maybe we’re not the best, but we always give our maximum effort, and we’ll keep doing so, taking responsibility for our actions."

Joel Pohjanpalo:
"There’s great regret because we put in a good performance, creating so many chances that we weren’t able to capitalize on. But what matters in this sport is the result, and we lacked that. It’s good to be solid in defense and to create movement in attack, but what matters now is getting results and bringing home points. Football can be cruel at times and doesn’t forgive certain mistakes.
There’s not much to say; we’re angry and disappointed because we played a solid match and conceded a goal on one of the few chances Lecce had.
We have to keep believing and working hard to improve and bring home the three points."
