Today was a difficult match that we approached the right way from the very start. Those first twenty minutes without the support of the crowd could have been tricky, but we pushed immediately and created many scoring chances. Coming back onto the pitch after two days and delivering a performance like this makes me proud. We could certainly have scored more tonight given the chances we had in front of goal, but I don’t feel I can say anything to my players; coaching these guys every day is extremely satisfying. Showing up at the training ground and working, then putting in performances like this, is really special. Hearing the crowd cheer for me fills me with pride—it means the work of my staff, who work 24 hours a day for these moments, has been recognized. From the very first moment I arrived in Venice, I felt the fans’ affection, and I would like to repay all this support on May 8 at the Penzo.

Looking back at the match in Genoa, it was a point gained, just like the draw we got in Bolzano. However, if I look at the performance, I can also think of them as two points lost, because we created a lot and I believe the display on the pitch deserved something more.

Physically we expended the right amount of energy; the team is used to playing a certain type of match and ran well. We hardly risked anything and allowed the opponent very little, apart from a few corner kicks at the end of the game. We managed the match with great awareness, and the few substitutions we made were meant to maintain the balance that the game required. We reached the goalkeeper four times but weren’t able to convert.

Tomorrow we take the field for the derby. Padova are a dangerous team that performs better away than at home. They have important players with pace and talent, they are very well coached, and they come from a run of three unfortunate results, though not in terms of performances. A derby is always open to any result, so we must be even more attentive.

At this moment, the team’s attitude of not conceding chances to opponents is a fundamental aspect. The two close matches against Padova and Monza? I’m only thinking about tomorrow’s game—fielding the best players and focusing, as always, one match at a time. For what we created today, it was a match we should have won. We had chances that were simply too big not to come away with the result. However, the point we earned allows us to keep moving in the standings and remain ahead of the teams chasing us. In the first half we found ourselves in front of the goalkeeper several times, and we needed to be able to put the ball in the net. We knew this would be a difficult game, but we were still able to deliver a strong performance, both in terms of the quality of our passing and from a defensive standpoint. We allowed very little to the opponent. Coming to the Ferraris and playing like this can only make me satisfied. We have to keep playing this way until the end. All the matches we’ve played so far have been approached in the right way—sometimes more brilliantly with goals, other times without managing to finish our chances. I hope that next Tuesday, in the derby, we’ll be able to deliver our usual performance
