Venezia FC are pleased to announce the signing of Croatian midfielder Toma Bašić, who has signed a contract until the end of the 2028/29 season, with an automatic extension triggered upon certain conditions being met.

Born in Zagreb in 1996, Bašić developed through the youth academy of NK Zagreb before being signed by Hajduk Split. In the summer of 2014, he was loaned to Rudeš, a club competing in the Croatian second division, where he made his professional debut, recording 25 appearances and 2 goals in his first season.

Returning to Hajduk Split the following year, he remained with the club until 2018, making a total of 75 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 14 assists.

In the summer of 2018, he moved to Bordeaux, where he played until 2021. During his time with the French club, he made 82 appearances, scoring 9 goals and adding 5 assists.

Signed permanently by Lazio in 2021, Bašić spent two seasons with the Biancocelesti, making a combined total of 70 appearances, with 2 goals and 2 assists across Serie A, the Coppa Italia, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Conference League.

In January 2024, he joined Salernitana on loan, finishing the Serie A season with 15 appearances. After returning to Lazio for the recently concluded campaign, he made 25 appearances across league and cup competitions, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists.

At international level, Bašić starred for the Croatia Under-21 national team before making his senior debut in November 2020 in the match against Turkey.

Venezia FC midfielder Matteo Dagasso has been called up to the senior Italian National Team for the upcoming two international friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.

The Azzurri will take the field on Wednesday, June 3 at 8:45 PM at the Stade de Luxembourg against Luxembourg, while on
Sunday, June 7 at 9:00 PM, Italy will play Greece at the Pankritio Stadium in Heraklion.

For Venezia FC, it is a moment of great pride to see one of its players wear the jersey of the senior Italian National Team.

Venezia FC announces that player Michael Svoboda has been called up by the Austria national football team to be part of the official squad for the 2026 World Cup. 

The arancioneroverde captain, under coach Ralf Rangnick, will take part in the Austrians’ eighth World Cup campaign, as they return after 28 years, their last appearance having been at 1998 FIFA World Cup. Austria has been drawn in Group J together with Argentina national football team, Algeria national football team and Jordan national football team. At the end of the match between Venezia FC and Palermo, valid for Matchday 38 of Serie B and ending in a 2-0 victory for the orange-and-green side, head coach Giovanni Stroppa and forward John Yeboah shared their thoughts on the match.

Once again tonight, the boys delivered an extraordinary performance. In the first half we played with quality, although we lacked a bit of efficiency, while in the second half we were devastating. It’s a shame about the many shots that hit the posts and crossbar, but I’m truly happy with the performance — and not only that. We have the best defense and the best attack in the league. It couldn’t have gone any differently because, based on the football this team has played throughout the season, these numbers were bound to be on our side as well.

The only thing on my mind right now is tomorrow’s celebration in Piazza San Marco. I want to enjoy tomorrow together with our fans on the Grand Canal and in the square. The team’s strength was clear from the very beginning; we were able to express a certain quality of football very quickly. I said we would be among the protagonists of the season, and the team consistently maintained an incredible level of performance. The squad has reaped what it sowed throughout this journey.

Tonight I enjoyed the match almost like a spectator — it’s beautiful to watch this team play, and I feel immense pride for what has been achieved. From a technical standpoint, I also want to say that nothing was taken for granted. We went through a journey where we faced difficulties, and we experienced a season of continuous growth crowned by important results.”


“Today, in the first half, it wasn’t easy to find the right spaces to hurt Palermo. Then in the second half we kept pushing, found the goal, and won the match. We really wanted to win the game and finish first in the league.

There is an incredibly strong bond with the fans. Ever since the first match of the season in the Coppa Italia, I could hear the curva chanting my name. It’s a wonderful feeling, and today once again I felt all the affection from the supporters. Today I fought for the badge on my chest, and I dedicate this league title victory to the entire staff — from my teammates to all the invisible people working behind the scenes around the players. I also want to thank my family for their constant support.

Now I want to celebrate with the city. Tomorrow I expect all of you on the Grand Canal and in Piazza San Marco to experience a memorable day together
