Venezia FC have signed Norwegian midfielder Mikael Tørset Johnsen on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Norwegian club Rosenborg BK and will send him on loan to the Oakland Roots in the USL Championship, the second division in the United States, through December 2022.
Johnsen, 21, is the younger brother of Venezia attacker Dennis Johnsen. His personal terms with Venezia extend through the 2023/24 season with an option for the following year.
After joining Rosenborg’s youth system in 2015, Johnsen broke into Rosenborg’s first team in 2019, making five total appearances between the league and cup in a domestic double-winning season plus one appearance in the UEFA Europa league later that calendar year.
The following year, Johnsen made four appearances with Rosenborg’s reserve side before going out on loan to Feyenoord.
Between the 2020/21 season and the first half of the 2021/22 season, Johnsen made nine appearances with three goals for the Feyenoord U21 side.
Johnsen is a former youth international, having earned three caps with Norway’s Under-21 national team in 2019.
Welcome, Mikael.
