Venezia FC and Save Venice announce partnership

October 27, 2021

Venezia FC are proud to announce a new partnership with Save Venice, the leading American non-profit dedicated to preserving the artistic heritage of Venice for the world, coinciding with the organization’s 50th anniversary in October 2021.

The partnership will be initially activated around Venezia FC’s 21/22 fourth shirt, which is set to be unveiled tomorrow, Thursday 28 October, and available for sale from Friday 29 October. Upon launch, Venezia FC will donate €5 from the sale of the each 21/22 fourth shirt at shop.veneziafc.it to Save Venice. The 21/22 fourth shirt, with gold details on Venetian red, is inspired by the iconic flag of the Republic of Venice.

In its 50-year history, Save Venice has provided funding for 700 conservation projects and educational initiatives, preserving nearly 1,700 individual works of art and architecture. The alliance with Venezia FC aims to bring increased international attention to the unique challenges facing Venice, the conservation priorities of Save Venice, and pathways to support the short and long-term care of the city’s artistic and cultural treasures.

“It is an honor for our organization to be affiliated with Venezia FC and to benefit from the proceeds of Venezia FC’s latest jersey,” said Save Venice Chairman Frederick Ilchman. “This partnership is just one component celebrating Save Venice’s 50th Anniversary in 2021. It will provide critical funding for conservation treatments of artwork in Venice and for educational initiatives that share Venice with the world. As a former Venetian resident and longtime fan, some of my happiest memories were in the Curva Sud. I look forward to wearing my jersey proudly.”

“Venezia FC’s mission is to leverage our position in the world’s most popular sport to serve as a global ambassador of Venice, which includes a specific focus on advocating for the preservation and celebration of Venice’s cultural heritage,” said Ted Philipakos, Venezia FC’s Chief Marketing Officer. “When we developed this mission, Save Venice’s work was a part of our inspiration, so it is an honor for us to announce this partnership. Venezia FC is very excited to be supporting and promoting Save Venice’s conservation projects and educational initiatives.”

Save Venice is commemorating its 50th anniversary in 2021/22 with 40+ restorations in Venice underway and special events taking place around the world. Proceeds from the Venezia FC partnership will support Save Venice’s mission to conserve and protect at-risk art and architecture in Venice.

— Centerpiece 50th Anniversary-year restorations: Byzantine apse mosaics in the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta on the island of Torcello, and the Italian Synagogue “Scuola Italiana” in the Jewish Ghetto of Venice.

— In addition to the 50th anniversary projects, Save Venice is sponsoring treatment of more than 40 other restorations including iconic works of art such as Titian’s Assunta in the basilica dei Frari and Vittore Carpaccio’s painting cycle in the Scuola Dalmata.
