Having put the Avellino away match behind them, Venezia FC are now preparing for the fixture on Saturday, 13 December against Monza. The match, valid for Matchday 16 of Serie BKT, will be played at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium at 3:00 p.m. Gianluca Busio takes stock of the situation three days before the game, highlighting the main themes of the orange-green week.
Gianluca Busio, Venezia FC midfielder.
“In Avellino we played very well; it’s a shame we didn’t win, but we’re on the right path. We must keep expressing our style of play. Football is like that — on Monday at the Partenio, at a certain point it felt like the ball just didn’t want to go in. When Daffara made that save on my shot that should have gone in, I thought it just wasn’t our day.
At the start of the week, Stroppa pointed out a few lapses in concentration at certain moments. Overall the performance was positive; we have to continue like this, trying to improve the small details, like on the goal we conceded. In Serie B it’s not enough to play well for almost the whole match — you have to give your maximum for the full 90 minutes, both defensively and offensively.
Up front we have strong players, teammates with the quality to hurt our opponents. We have everything it takes to score as many goals as possible; we just need to maintain the right sharpness in the final third. As for my role, I’m comfortable playing both as a mezzala or as a deep-lying playmaker in midfield; I like keeping possession of the ball. Having high-level players beside me, as we do this year, helps me express my qualities at their best. Going forward, we midfielders can switch positions without giving the opponents clear reference points.
Now we face a very important match against Monza; we approach it with awareness and confidence in the work we are doing. The Brianzoli are a strong team that, like us, played in Serie A last year. It will be a tough match, but we are all ready to take the field with the right attitude.”
