At the end of the match between Carrarese and Venezia FC, valid for the ninth round of the Serie BKT season and concluded with a 3–2 victory for the Tuscan side, coach Giovanni Stroppa and midfielder Issa Doumbia shared their post-match analysis.
Giovanni Stroppa, Venezia FC head coach:
“At the beginning of both halves we were unable to impose our game the way we wanted. In the second half of the first half, we conceded the equalizer and even risked going behind, as we did at the start of the second half. When you don’t manage to score and close out the match, you risk endings like today’s. Up until the last two or three counterattacks, we were in full control, we were dominating the game and could have taken home the result, but Carrarese were more clear-headed and clinical in turning their chances into goals.
One of their main strengths is precisely their ability to break on the counter, and today they clearly demonstrated that: they were more effective than us. We, on the other hand, were not precise enough, especially in front of goal, and we made too many mistakes. The momentum of the match was in our favor, but when you waste so much, you end up being punished.
If you don’t combine quality with clinical finishing, you won’t get anywhere. We did things almost well, but ‘almost’ is not enough—there is still a lot of work to do and improvements to be made because this is not sufficient.”
Issa Doumbia, Venezia FC midfielder:
“I’m disappointed with the result; Carrarese were better than us at making the most of the chances they had. We have to take this match as an important lesson. We created many chances to close out the game, but we were not clinical in front of goal. We must now continue working in training to come out of afternoons like this even stronger. I’m happy for the goal, but I would have preferred to go home with the three points.”
