Serie B 22/23: Cagliari - Venezia postmatch

October 1, 2022

After going down a goal, Joel Pohjanpalo equalized with his first goal for the club, substitute Denis Chershev followed with his first two goals for the club just two minutes apart, and Ridgeciano Haps killed off the match with a late goal, as Venezia exploded for four second-half goals in a rampant performance to win 1-4 at Cagliari in Giornata 7 of the 2022/23 Serie B season.

Venezia manager Ivan Javorčić and attacker Denis Cheryshev spoke to the press after the match.

Ivan Javorčić:

“Before coming to Cagliari, I was very confident about the team's path, and I had no doubts about the performance of the boys even after the first goal conceded. In the changing room at half-time, I simply spurred them on. In the second half, we changed our mood, despite the fact that the match had been balanced already through the first 45 minutes. I am very happy for the team, who deserve such a positive result after these months of work. Today was a good victory, but we need to continue to work consistently.

Cheryshev has been a very important addition, gradually giving us more and more positive indications in training and marking the beginning of his journey with us with today's double. The path of this team has been difficult so far. We still have many things to discover, learn, and improve, but even in the negative results I was clear about the potential of the squad. Our team will make its complexity its strength.”

Denis Cheryshev:

“Our path has been characterized by very intense training so far, and I am happy with the result. I did my job, and I tried to do it to the best of my ability. Our goal should not be to think about other team’s results and performances, but to concentrate every time we take the field and perform match after match. We always look to the next match: Venezia is a very young team, but with very good prospects, which can only be realized with consistency in the weekly work.”
