Serie B 22/23: Ascoli - Venezia postmatch

March 18, 2023

On Giornata 30 of the 2022/23 Serie B season, Venezia took home three crucial points in the away match against Ascoli at the Stadio Del Duca. In the first minute of added time of a no-holds-barred match, Andrea Carboni sealed the 0-1 victory goal thanks to Denis Cheryshev's timely assist.

Venezia manager Paolo Vanoli and defender Andrea Carboni spoke to the press after the match.

Paolo Vanoli:

"Today we played on a historically challenging pitch, where we deservedly won a complex game. The spirit of my players has to be this. Initially we felt the weight of the match, Ascoli started better than us, but the task of a coach is also to understand the difficulties of the team and have the courage to act accordingly, already during the game, putting ourselves back running.

I don't want to think about our direct opponents for salvation, but only about ourselves, continuing to grind out points. We have a break ahead of us, which should effectively prepare us for a difficult home game against Como. I still believe we are missing some malice in going to the goal and scoring.”

Andrea Carboni:

"Today's victory is really important, but these points won't do any good if we don't continue on our path of commitment and daily work: that's the only way we will achieve salvation. Today's was my first goal, and the fact that it led to the victory makes me even happier.

Today we switched from a three-man defense to a four-man defense, and we did not suffer the backlash precisely because the coach makes us work every day on different solutions, to make us more ductile and more efficient. The next game will tell so much about our future, and we have two weeks to prepare it thoroughly. I personally want to send my message to our fans: come to the Penzo and support us, because I think this team really deserves it.”
