ROMA-VENEZIA: POST MATCH

September 29, 2024

At the end of Roma-Venezia, Day 6 of the Serie A Enilive 2024/25 championship, which finished with the result of 2-1, Venezia coach Eusebio Di Francesco and Joel Pohjanpalo analyzed the match as follows.

Eusebio Di Francesco
"Today we deserved a different result, especially for what we created. In the first 60 minutes, we gave Roma very little, creating many chances that we didn’t capitalize on.
We are truly disappointed because we’re returning to Venice without any points after a match where we played good football for the first 70 minutes. Today we learned that when you have the chance, you need to close out the game. We can’t afford certain mistakes after putting in such a strong performance.
I also believe that Venezia played a great match but paid for the inexperience and naivety that you can’t afford in a league like Serie A.
This team is starting to play real football, and I’m very happy about that because I believe, in the long run, we will reap the rewards. That doesn’t change the fact that we need to iron out all those little uncertainties that are part of the process."

Joel Pohjanpalo:
"We are really disappointed not to have gotten points after playing a great first half. We’re in Serie A, and we need to stay focused for the full 90 minutes; today we had several chances that we didn’t capitalize on and made some small mistakes that Roma exploited.
Starting tomorrow, we’ll go back to analyzing our mistakes and preparing for Friday’s match against Verona, where we want to get a result.
I’m happy with my start in Serie A — I’ve scored two goals in four matches, but of course, I’m only happy when the goals help the team achieve its objectives."
