Venezia FC is pleased to announce the signing of Suriname international left-back Ridgeciano Haps, 28, from Feyenoord.
Born in the Netherlands, Haps came through the youth system at AZ Alkmaar, eventually breaking into the first team and making his Eredivisie debut in September 2013. Haps became a regular starter for AZ in the 2015/16 season, making 27 Eredivisie appearances with three goals as the club finished fourth in the table, while also making seven appearances in the UEFA Europa League. The following season, Haps made another 30 appearances in the Eredivisie and 12 appearances in the UEFA Europa League, which earned him a move to Feyenoord in July 2017.
In his first season with Feyenoord, Haps made 27 appearances in domestic competition and won his first trophy, the 2017 KNVB Cup, while also playing in the UEFA Champions League for the first time, making four appearances in the competition. Over the last five seasons with Feyenoord, Haps has made 76 appearances with five goals and eight assists in domestic competition plus 19 appearances with one goal and one assist in European competition.
At international level, Haps, who is of Surinamese descent, has earned five caps playing for Suriname. He made his international debut in June 2021, as Suriname defeated Bermuda in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification. Last month, Haps made three total appearances for Suriname at the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
