Playoffs 22/23: Cagliari-Venezia postmatch

May 27, 2023

Overcome by 2-1 at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Venezia ended their promotion race in the preliminary round of the playoffs of the 2022/23 Serie B season.

Venezia coach Paolo Vanoli and striker Nicholas Pierini spoke to the press after the match.

Paolo Vanoli:

"I am proud of this team, regardless of the result of this match. We pushed so hard to get to a result that until a few weeks ago would have been unimaginable. Today's match is part of the growth path of these players, who need to gain experience. At halftime, after conceding 2-0, I asked the guys not to lose their heads and to react. They did, even though they failed to reach the goal. This will be a starting point for new challenges in the coming season.

We had a good start, but after 1-0 we lost our measures against an experienced team that can handle these moments. It is the details that make the difference in these matches. We believed all the way in our chances, and I think our fans should be proud of us as well: until the very end, we did everything we could to stay in the game."

Nicholas Pierini:

"We never stopped having confidence that we could turn this game around, it was a shame to concede so much after 15 minutes of play. We had a very high intensity second half in which we gave it our all, but it was not enough. In any case, we are happy to have shown our growth this season, and we proved it again tonight in a hot square like Cagliari. We return to Venice with our heads held high, having become a real team."
