Lecco-Venezia: post match

April 20, 2024

At the end of Lecco-Venezia, Day 34 of the Serie BKT 2023/24 championship, which finished with the result of 1-2, Venezia coach Paolo Vanoli and Mato Jajalo analyzed the match as follows.

Paolo Vanoli
"There was a bit of suffering in a game I feared so much, against a team that showed it was alive and not willing to give up until the end. I had warned my team, in the first half we struggled we could never get first on the second ball. We decided to change something at halftime and the second half went better, we scored and created more chances. We could have maybe scored the third goal to close it out but from here to the end we know that they will all be not easy matches. We don't look at who is ahead in the standings, we have to try to make five wins and not give up until the end. We have to rest, we have another important match now in front of our audience and we want to think only about that one. I like to take care of the details, that's why we decided to take advantage of the regulation and do the finish at the stadium. The responses of a synthetic field are completely different than natural grass, I didn't want any alibis for my players and the fatigue we had in the first half was not due to the pitch. We are a strong team, we had to stay calm today because we could have turned the result around. I am lucky to have intelligent and good players, the group makes the difference. From here to the end we have to leave each field knowing that we gave everything.“

Mato Jajalo
“The field doesn't allow you to play the way you want however we know our concepts of play and in the second half you could see our quality. We knew the dangers Lecco could cause us, in the first half they put us in difficulty, in my opinion they don't deserve the ranking they have. However, in the second half we came out well, we gave gas and managed to overturn the result and we deserved the victory. I am enjoying every minute on the field, I always give 100 percent no matter if I am a starter or not. I want to continue to do my best in the service of the coach and the team. Our fans know that the next one will be an important game and we know that too, we will have to face our opponents with head, calm and the push of our people behind.“
