Venezia FC are pleased to announce the acquisition of Cameroonian striker Jean-Pierre Nsame, 28, on loan from Swiss Super League club BSC Young Boys through the remainder of the 2021/22 season with an option for a permanent transfer.
Nsame is one of the most prolific strikers in the history of Swiss football.
Upon joining Young Boys in July 2017, Nsame led the Bern-based club to four consecutive Swiss Super League titles from 2017/18 through 2020/21 — halting FC Basel’s record run of eight consecutive titles in the process — and one Swiss Cup in 2019/20, while scoring a remarkable 89 goals in 140 matches between domestic league and cup competition. He finished as Swiss Super League top scorer in each of the last two seasons, including a league record 32 goals in 32 games in 2019/20.
Last season, Nsame also helped Young Boys reach the UEFA Europa League Round of 16, scoring six goals in nine matches including qualification. In total, Nsame has scored nine goals in 33 appearances in UEFA competitions.
Nsame recently returned to full training after a right Achilles tendon tear had kept him on the sidelines through the first half of the 2021/22 season.
Before joining Young Boys, Nsame spent one season at Servette, becoming top scorer in the Challenge League, the Swiss second division, with 23 goals in 31 games.
Nsame was previously in France, beginning his career at Angers SCO, where he scored once in 26 appearances (six starts) between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 across three seasons, along with two loans spells at Carquefou and Amiens in the Championnat National, the French third tier.
In international play, Nsame has earned one cap with Cameroon, coming in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Nigeria in September 2017.
Welcome, Jean-Pierre.
