Venezia FC are pleased to announce that United States international midfielder Gianluca Busio has signed a contract extension through the 2024/25 season.
Busio, 20, arrived from MLS club Sporting Kansas City in August 2021 and immediately established his place in midfield, adapting remarkably well to life in Serie A. The Greensboro, North Carolina native would make 29 appearances (23 starts) in the 2021/22 Serie A season, and his 1,944 total minutes played were the fourth-most in the league by a player under the age of 21.
Busio scored one goal on the campaign, a stoppage-time equalizer in a 1-1 draw at Cagliari in Giornata 7, and added two assists, with one coming on David Okereke’s match-winning goal at Bologna in Giornata 13.
At international level, Busio has earned nine caps for the United States senior national team.
Gianluca Busio:
“I am really happy to sign a new contract here and I would like to thank everyone who made this possible. I really enjoyed my first year, the city is amazing and the fans are even better and they’re ready to support us in trying to make it back to Serie A. Especially after getting relegated last year, I wanted to be part of the team that will fight for promotion and I am really excited for this year. There were offers and interest from other places but my heart is in Venice and I I really wanted to stay here and work for our goal and make the fans happy again.”
