Venezia FC are pleased to announce the acquisition of Czech international defender Aleš Matějů for the remainder of the 2021/22 season with an option for a further two years.
Matějů, 25, arrives on a free transfer after the dissolution of his contract with Brescia, where he spent the last three-and-a-half seasons, making 31 appearances (28 starts) in Serie A and 65 appearances (58 starts) in Serie B.
The versatile defender, who typically plays at right-back but has also lined up on the left and in the center of defense, initially arrived at Brescia on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion before making the move permanent, after spending one season with the Premier League side without making a first team appearance.
Matějů previously played for his hometown club Příbram and Viktoria Plzeň in the Czech top division. At Plzeň, Matějů made nine total appearances with one goal in UEFA competition between Champions League qualification and the Europa League group stage.
In international play, Matějů has earned 10 caps with the senior national team, including four appearances in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, as the Czech Republic are currently vying for one of Europe’s final tickets to the tournament.
Welcome, Aleš.
