The press conference of Giovanni Stroppa

November 1, 2025

For the 11th matchday of Serie BKT, Venezia FC visits Catanzaro. The Arancioneroverdi’s away match will take place on Sunday, November 2, at 3:00 p.m. at the Stadio Nicola Ceravolo. On the eve of the game against the Calabrians, coach Stroppa reflected on his team’s form following their midweek victory over Südtirol.

Giovanni Stroppa, Venezia FC head coach:
The performance against Südtirol, beyond the three goals, was important; the opponent was strong, and we managed to limit their strengths. Tomorrow we’re facing a strong team coming off two consecutive wins — they’re in good form and have a clear playing philosophy. We’ll also be playing in a tough environment.

We’re the third-highest-scoring team in Serie B, so things are going well up front, even though we could be more clinical with the chances we create. Last Wednesday, our passing quality and tempo were much better; the opponents struggled to contain our offensive moves, we worked the flanks well without forcing plays.

Duncan has recovered and is doing well; at the moment, I have more options available in every department to rotate the players. Pietrelli played almost the entire season last year on the left flank; he came from a preseason where he trained separately, so we’re managing him carefully to bring him to peak condition.

When we play at the Penzo Stadium, the atmosphere is certainly favorable, but away matches are just the same. Between Pescara and Carrara, we conceded goals too easily — during dips in concentration, we took mental breaks and didn’t show the right aggression in key moments. Defensively, we need to be sharp in marking and anticipate the opponents’ moves; if we stay focused, we’ll reduce the chances we give away. Up front and in midfield, things are going well — it’s hard for me to think about changing players.

Catanzaro is a team with great passing quality that reflects their coach’s philosophy. In Iemmello, they have a technical and emotional leader, and they also have players who bring verticality to their play. It’s a well-built team for the division, one that has maintained the same identity and ideas over the years.”
