Venezia 1985 claims victory in the derby away to Venezia FC, thanks to a brace from Tosatto.
The arancioneroverdi, engaged in a hard-fought match, fall in the final minutes, partly due to a controversial red card shown to Nurzia early in the second half. Berta Prat Hernandez’s side must now respond quickly in their tough away match next Sunday against Trento.
From the opening minutes, the Leonesse immediately look dangerous in attack as they push for an early lead. An inspired Willis tries multiple times to break the deadlock—first with two long-range efforts and then with a header that goes just wide. The visitors’ first warning comes in the 12th minute when a dangerous free kick is deflected for a corner by Venezia FC goalkeeper Nan.
Cortesi's header, which narrowly misses the crossbar, foreshadows the Leonesse's breakthrough, which comes just two minutes later. In the 28th minute, Zuanti provides a precise assist for Willis, who finishes off a well-worked team move by slotting the ball past Tonello. (1-0)
Buoyed by their advantage, the hosts nearly double their lead before halftime through Furlanis, whose powerful shot brushes past the post.
In the closing minutes of the first half, shots from Cortesi and Willis force solid saves from opposing goalkeeper Tonello. The opening 45 minutes end with Venezia FC in full control and deservedly ahead.
However, the second half begins in the worst possible way for the arancioneroverdi. In the 52nd minute, a challenge by Nurzia in her own defensive third is harshly punished with a red card. From the resulting free kick, Tosatto delivers a perfect strike into the top corner, leaving Nan helpless and leveling the score at 1-1.
Despite being down to ten players, the Leonesse do not give up and push forward in search of another lead. Gismann, Furlanis, and Menini all try to restore Venezia FC’s advantage, with Menini forcing Tonello into a double save in the 77th minute.
Just when the match seems destined for a draw, Venezia 1985 delivers the decisive blow. Tosatto, with a powerful low shot, completes her brace and seals the final 1-2 result, condemning Venezia FC to a bitter defeat.
