SERIE C FEM 22/23: VENEZIA 1-2 BOLOGNA

After opening the year with two wins, the Venezia FC Femminile suffered their first loss on the campaign, going down to Bologna at Centro Sportivo Taliercio on Wednesday afternoon In Giornata 3 of the 2022/32 Serie C Femminile season.

The visitors were proactive and took the lead just two minutes into the match, when Maryline Antolini set up Martina Gelmetti to finish.

Through the rest of the first half, Venezia would generate several chances but could not respond with an equalizer. In the 11th minute, Isabel Cacciamali took a pass from Alice Zuanti and sent a shot at goal that would deflect off teammate Elena Govetto. In the 26th minute, Zuanti had an opening but from a tight angle and her shot was straight at the ‘keeper. Shortly after, Cacciamali combined in a neat one-two with Govetto, but the cross into the box did not find a target.

In the second half, Bologna again scored almost immediately, when Benedetta De Biase connected on a cross from the left side and hit the back of the net . Venezia contested that the ball had gone out over the byline before the cross, but the goal would stand.

A few minutes later, Bologna’s Giulia Arcamone was shown a red card, giving Venezia an advantage as they looked to get back into the match.

In the 69th minute, Venezia pulled one back, with Beatrice Airola crossing from the right side, Cacciamali getting her head on it, and Ilaria Mella finishing. Just a few minutes later, Zuanti threatened to equalize, but Bologna ‘keeper Lucia Sassi stepped up with a good save. Over the final 20 minutes, Venezia would buzz around the visitors goal would ultimately could not level the match.

Venezia will return to action on Sunday afternoon at Jesina in Giornata 4 of the 2022/23 season.
