Serie C Fem 21/22: Padova 1-3 Venezia

In Giornata 6 of the 2021/22 Serie C Femminile season, Venezia made the short trip to local rivals Padova and came away with all three points in a 1-3 derby win, making it three wins in a row on the campaign.

Venezia attacked from the outset, with striker Alice Zuanti and midfielder Vanessa Stefanello getting chances in the first quarter of an hour.

In the 24th minute, Venezia finally broke through, with Zuanti taking a pass from midfielder Alessandra Nencioni, beating two Padova defenders on her way to goal, and setting up her strike partner Anna Stankovic, who finished with a low shot inside the post.

Venezia did not sit back, with Zuanti and Stefanello threatening further, but they would ultimately take their 0-1 lead into half-time.

Just six minutes into the second half, Venezia doubled their advantage. Zuanti's perseverance had paid off, as she finally hit the back of the net, taking a feed from Nencioni on the volley and hitting it off the post and in.

Shortly thereafter, Stankovic nearly scored her second of the match, but Padova ‘keeper Sara Polonio deflected her shot off the crossbar.

Venezia would eventually put the game away with a third goal, when substitute striker Elena Govetto beautifully lobbed Polonio.

In the 81st minute, the hosts pulled one back through Laura Spagnolo, but there would be no comeback, as Venezia saw out the result.

With the win, manager Fabiana Comin’s side reach 13 points on the season, just three points off the pace of league leaders Vicenza.
