At the “G. Taliercio” Sports Center, the Lionesses hosted Hellas Verona for Matchday 17 of the Women’s Serie B championship. The match ended in a 1–1 draw: a result that leaves the orange-and-black side with some regrets for the many chances created over the ninety minutes, but also earns a valuable point in the fight for survival.
Coach Luis Oliveira’s players started brightly, immediately aggressive and determined to control the game. After 5 minutes, Furlanis delivered a cross into the box for Willis, who headed home, but the referee spotted a foul on the visiting goalkeeper. In the 7th minute, Doneda tried a powerful long-range effort that went just wide. The orange-and-black side kept pushing: in the 9th minute, Furlanis, played in on the left, beat her defender and entered the box but lost control at the decisive moment. In the 22nd minute, another big chance: Gismann crossed from the left and Willis’ header went just wide. A minute later, Verona responded with a volley from the edge of the box by Hoydal, which missed the target. Venezia maintained control of possession and in the 24th minute Furlanis, after winning a sprint duel, broke into the area but couldn’t find the finishing touch. Toward the end of the half, the Lionesses kept pressing, but the yellow-and-blue defense closed every gap. The teams went into halftime at 0–0.
The second half opened with Venezia still on the front foot. In the 51st minute, a double chance from a corner: first Willis was beaten to the ball by Valzolgher, then a close-range header from Furlanis was turned behind for another corner. In the 63rd minute, Ballo set up Furlanis inside the box, but her right-footed shot drifted just past the post. A minute later, from another corner situation, Mounecif fired from the edge of the area without hitting the target. Despite Venezia’s pressure, Hellas Verona took the lead in the 68th minute: following a scramble in the box, Corsi reacted quickest to a loose ball and made it 0–1. Venezia responded immediately. In the 77th minute, Furlanis unleashed a powerful right-footed shot from the edge of the box that grazed the post. The equalizer came in the 80th minute: Furlanis’ shot was saved, Cortesi hit the post, and Mazis was quickest to react, tapping in the rebound for 1–1. In the closing stages, the orange-and-black side pushed for a winner. In the 83rd minute, Mazis, well set up, shot just wide. In stoppage time, Venezia poured forward again, but the score remained unchanged.
