The Venezia FC Lionesses suffered an away defeat against Lumezzane at the end of a dramatic and action-packed match. After taking the lead in the second half through Ballo and equalizing late on thanks to Cortesi, the orange-and-black side were eventually beaten 4-2 by the Lombardy team in the closing minutes. Following this result, the Venetian side have been mathematically relegated.
The match was balanced and hard-fought from the opening stages. Coach Oliveira’s players created several chances but lacked precision in the final third. In the 14th minute, from a corner taken by Mazis, Saggion headed over the bar. Shortly afterward, Ballo set up Mazis on the edge of the area, but the shot went wide. Venezia kept pressing: Zuanti tried from distance in the 37th minute, while in the 39th minute Mazis came close to scoring with a powerful effort that narrowly missed the target. Near the end of the first half, Doneda also threatened, but her shot was blocked by the home defense. Lumezzane mainly responded through dangerous counterattacks, but the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
Venezia started the second half strongly. In the 49th minute, Capecchi made a crucial save from Willis’ header, and three minutes later the orange-and-black side took the lead: high pressure on the right forced an error from the Lombard defense, allowing Ballo to unleash a precise right-footed strike from the edge of the box into the top corner for 0-1. The home side reacted and equalized in the 66th minute through Pinna, who took advantage of a through ball and beat Pucova. Lumezzane completed the comeback in the 72nd minute from a corner kick: after a scramble in the area, Sule scored from close range to make it 2-1. The game changed again in the 77th minute when Pinna was sent off for a foul on Duarte, leaving the home side down to ten players. Venezia immediately capitalized on the numerical advantage and equalized 2-2 in the 84th minute: Duarte assisted Cortesi, who cut inside onto her left foot and curled a precise shot into the far corner beyond Capecchi’s reach. Despite being a player down, Lumezzane still found the strength to strike again. In the 88th minute, Sule received the ball inside the area and beat Pucova to restore the Rossoblù lead. Deep into stoppage time, with Venezia pushing forward in search of an equalizer, Burbassi sealed the result on the counterattack, making it 4-2.
