PRIMAVERA 22/23: PADOVA 0-1 VENEZIA

January 28, 2023

The Venezia FC Primavera made the short trip to local rivals Padova to start the second half of the season, and came away with all three points in a 0-1 derby win, extending their unbeaten streak to five.

In the one-sided match that saw Venezia as the dominant side for the majority of the 90 minutes, the hosts were forced to play in their final third of the pitch. Employing a wait-and-see approach, with restarts and counter attacks as the main strategy, Padova were not able to trouble Tommaso Sperandio, except on one occasion in the second half, as Venezia’s lines were pushing forward looking for the finish.

In the first half, the best chance for the visitors came from a played ball by Lorenzo Da Pozzo, where the defender managed to drive the ball at goal, but the Padova keeper picked it up before Alvin Okoro was able to connect.

After the break, Venezia continued attacking aggressively with Filippo Mozzo and Jack De Vries efforts from outside the box, but the two sides kept a clean sheet until Venezia finally opened the scoring in the 70th minute with Okoro; from a corner, Noah Badouin met with a free header that was however cleared off the goalline by a Padova defender, but Okoro was there on the rebound to capitalize on the chance and put the guests ahead.

With Saturday’s win, Venezia rose to fifth place in the standings with 27 points, and will return to action on February 4 at Centro Sportivo Taliercio against Alessandria.
