PRIMAVERA 22/23: ASCOLI 3-1 VENEZIA

May 27, 2023

The Venezia FC Primavera postseason run came to an end with a 3-1 loss away to Ascoli in the 2022/23 Primavera 2 semifinals.

In a balanced first half, both sides’ chances lacked a bit of sharpness to be properly threatening. Following efforts from Nicola Camolese and Patrick Leal, Amin Boudri broke away on the counter to set up attacker Alvin Okoro, but his shot was deflected out for a corner by the Ascoli ‘keeper.

Despite Venezia creating good offensive looks, Ascoli would take the lead in the 43rd minute from a corner through Massimiliano Gennari, who managed to get hold of a loose ball in the box and score the opener for the hosts.

After the break, the visitors looked to get back on level terms, but they were hit with another setback, as Ascoli doubled their advantage in the 56th minute from another corner with Andrea Franzolini’s header.

Venezia were undeterred and continued to attack but Ascoli’s defense would not break, with the bianconeri adding a third goal in stoppage time directly on an Augusto Bando free-kick.

The visitors would deservedly pull one back just before the whistle, when Kristófer Jónsson hit the crossbar on a set piece and Boudri was there to send it in.

Venezia FC Primavera’s campaign end in their first-ever semifinals appearance, following a remarkable season where they played excellent football.
