Melvyn Rémy: “Saturday’s first playoff match will be the real challenge”

May 16, 2023

Central defender Melvyn Rémy, 19, arrived in Venice in the summer of 2021 and immediately made his mark on coach Soncin's lineup, of which he is vice-captain. Born in Marseille, Rémy boasts numerous professional experiences abroad despite his young age.

“I started playing football in my city when I was six years old, then moved with my brother to Montpellier. I went abroad at a very young age, playing at Cadiz and then in Portugal. The pandemic stopped me for a year before finally landing at Venezia. My first season in Primavera was very challenging, we narrowly missed the playoffs, but we can redeem ourselves this year! The first game against Benevento, at home, will be the most difficult, we will need the support of our fans at Taliercio, but I have a lot of confidence in the abilities of this team, which has now become a family.

I am among the 'veterans' of the team, I am keen to let my teammates know that they can count on me, on and off the pitch, both in action and with the right words. If I can give my best, I always try to do so, but everyone has their individual qualities, and that is our strength. We are a multicultural team, each of my teammates has 'imported' his culture and style of play, and this is beautiful. I am a defender, but I like to sprint forward to score goals: when I started playing I was more in the midfield and on the right flank, and a lot of what I learned in my very early years of football has also flowed into my current style of play.”
