Primavera defender Lorenzo Busato has been part of the Venezia Youth Sector for a good nine years now and the Venezia jersey feeks like a second skin to him. The class of 2004 talks about his first approach to the game and his history with the club.
"I started playing football when I was four years old. I remember when my dad would take me to the pool, but I would see my brothers playing in the nearby field... I couldn't resist, I wanted to play football too. I started in Maerne, and at 10 years old I went to the Venezia Youth Academy, where I stayed until I got to the Primavera and the First Team call-ups. I have a lot of good memories and important achievements from these past nine years, but if I have to think of a specific episode I’d say the first year with the Under 15 national team. That year we did really well as a team, but also on a personal level it was an important season.
In the Primavera we have a nice group, culturally diverse, and I see that as a great value, because it allows us to see things from many different angles. It’s challenging but very stimulating, because it helps us enter the “adult” world by opening our mind. I get along very well with Coach Soncin and all his staff, because they are great professionals who take care of everything down to the smallest details, and I see myself a lot in this approach to work. I also recently scored my first goal with the Primavera and it was a wonderful feeling, partly because as a defender I don't often score goals. It made me realize that I am doing good and that I need to continue on this path. It was also a special goal for me because I wanted to dedicate it to my dad, who passed away last year.
Wearing my city's jersey has a special meaning, and it's hard to describe the thrill of being called-up to the First Team this season. I thought I would have a hard time fitting into a locker room of professionals, but everyone was welcoming, and it was easy to blend in and build a good relationship with everyone. I really hope to have more opportunities, it's the dream of every kid playing football."
