SERIE C FEM 21/22: Venezia 3-2 Riccione

January 31, 2022

After a nine-match winning streak was halted at Vicenza last week, Venezia FC Femminile returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, as a decisive second-half goal from Martina Sclavo delivered a 3-2 win over visitors Riccione at Centro Sportivo Taliercio in Giornata 15 of the 2021/22 Serie C Femminile season.

Venezia took the lead just 10 minutes into the match when Isabel Cacciamali collected a pass from Karin Mantoani and fired in a shot from outside the area.

Riccione quickly proved how balanced the two teams were and threatened to equalize, but Venezia held firm thanks to ‘keeper Alice Pinel and defenders Anna Quaglio and Sol Benzaquen.

In the 18th minute, Venezia gained some breathing room, extending their lead to 2-0 as Elena Govetto set up Alice Zuanti in the box to finish.

But just two minutes later, Riccione would pull one back through Martian Gelmetti and keep themselves in the match, with the score remaining 2-1 going into half-time.

From the start of the second half, both sides went on the attack, but Riccione would get the next goal, as Valentina Colombo beat Pinel from distance in the 51st minute to bring her side level.

Despite letting their two-goal lead slip away, the Lionesses would not be discouraged and fought back.

In the 59th minute, Venezia went close on a header from Benzaquen, but the effort was stopped by ‘keeper Alessia Parnoffi. The breakthrough would come six minutes later.

In the 65th minute, Venezia went back in front when Martina Sclavo scored from a Cacciamali free-kick, and they would preserve their lead to the end, holding off a difficult opponent.
